MEANING: to look like or behave like an older member of your family.

EXAMPLES:

· Who do you take after, your mother or your father?

· He looks after his father.

· I take after my mother in looks.

MEANING: to take care.

EXAMPLES:

· I'm looking after my sister because she's ill.

· He always looks after his mother.

· The car is very expensive. You should look after it.

MEANING: to find by accident.

EXAMPLES:

· He was digging and he came across some oil.

· I've never come across anyone like you.

· Whose book is this? I came across it in a drawer.
